About

First Baptist Church of Marshallville has served the people of Marshallville and missions at home and abroad for over 160 years. Founded in August of 1848 as Greenwood Baptist Church, the church moved to Marshallville in 1850 but waited until 1860 to change its name to Marshallville Baptist Church.

We are a small congregation that is rooted in our past and growing into our future. We deeply care about one another and minister in many ways to each other. We welcome guests to our services and to join our fellowship. You will not find a more welcoming people nor any congregation that will love you more. Our desire is to create in each person a thirst for God that involves a love for scripture and prayer, which we believe leads believers to worship and service. We believe Jesus gave the church the mission to “make disciples” (Matthew 28:18-20); our church programs and activities focus on fulfilling that mission. That means bringing unbelievers to faith in Christ and leading believers to grow in their faith that they may become more like Jesus Christ.

During our history, our church has constructed two buildings for worship. The first was dedicated to the glory of God in 1861; the second was dedicated to the glory of God in 1920 after the first burned in 1911. The congregation has just completed major repair work on the roof, and earlier work in the sanctuary. We pray that this beautiful sanctuary that God has given us will be used for many generations yet to be born and that those in future generations will continue to serve our great and awesome God by worshiping in this place and ministering locally and around the world.

But more important than the buildings is the ministry to the community our church has provided over the years. The congregation that comprises the FBC Marshallville continues in that long tradition. Some of the recent ministries provided through this church include local ministry such as our outreach to The Oaks (a local elderly nursing care home) residents by providing gifts at Christmas and hosting a Valentine’s Party in February. Also, our church has conducted a Sunday school class at The Oaks for over 40 years. Another local ministry is provided in cooperation with Rehoboth Baptist Association (which the church joined in 1849) by providing food through the Christian Social Ministry. Vacation Bible School is conducted jointly with the Methodist Church each summer. Our church also works with the Association to support the training of pastors in Moldova, as well as medical clinics and Vacation Bible Schools there. Another recent project filled shoeboxes with Christmas gifts to be distributed in the Appalachian area. We invited you to add your prayers to ours for our ministries.

If you are seeking a small, family-sized congregation that will not rush you with activities but will encourage you to “train for godliness” (1 Timothy 4:7) through spiritual disciplines, scripture study, prayer, and active ministry, we invite you to join us for worship.
